Ekiti State DigiComms: A New Beginning
Barely a month ago, I published a blog post titled: “Ekiti State DigiComms: The Final Wordâ€. This ought to be my final word regarding my time as Special Assistant on Digital Communications to my mentor, former Governor Kayode Fayemi in Ekiti State. I wrote about my experience serving in government and documented all the processes, strategies and resources that we mobilised to achieve successful digital communications in Ekiti State. If you are a digital communications enthusiast, you should get a copy of the report as it will give you an insight into what digital communications is all about and how effective and relevant it can be in any government.
I thought that was my last engagement in public service and I had provided a report to help succeeding personnel build on our success. But little did I know that God had other plans. I was reappointed to continue in this role by the Governor of Ekiti State, H.E Biodun Oyebanji a few weeks ago. When I received the news, I was short of words and did not know how best to react. The short break I had in October caused me to reflect on my time in office; the success, limitations, methods, and relationships. Some of the efforts were ideal and effective, while others were naive and inefficient. Above all, it was important to draw lessons from the mistakes and confidence from the success achieved.
I came to terms with the fact that the greatest honour in public service is to leave with your name, faith, and integrity intact. It is also about staying true to your identity, values, and purpose without fear of being seen as an outsider. Although being extraordinary requires determination, purpose, perseverance and grit, there is a limit to how far any young person can go in public service without the gift of men and God’s wisdom. Like Apostle Joshua Selman said, “There are many people today who are ordained for greatness but they suffer from the lack of wisdom. If God humbled himself to honour good men and women, who are we to dishonour them? Angels don’t sign signatures, they are signed by humans.†This is why I am grateful to God for the wisdom to maintain my relationship with great men and women of good conscience that He surrounded me with. At different stages of our journey, we all need someone who will whisper our names in high places and gatherings where we are not present. My reappointment goes beyond my competence or previous success, rather it was more about God’s grace and the gift of good men and women.
My sincere appreciation to my mentors, political leaders, colleagues, friends and associates for all the goodwill messages, prayers, and kind words on my re-appointment. I am indeed very grateful. I would like to thank H.E Governor Biodun Oyebanji for the confidence and trust reposed in me. Much gratitude to my mentors, H.E Dr Kayode Fayemi and H.E Bisi Fayemi for their investment in my public service career. To my teacher and line manager, Mr Yinka Oyebode, thank you for your unwavering support and love.
I commenced work two days ago and my priority is to transform how our digital channels (@ekitistategov & @DigiCommsEKSG) communicate, connect with and serve citizens on social media. Do you have ideas on how we can make these channels better? Don’t hesitate to send an email to digicommseksg@gmail.com.
To God be the Glory. The watch has begun again. May God continue to give us the wisdom and grace to lead a responsible, dignified, and impactful life. Amen
